Friends of the Concord - Lake Sunapee Rail Trail

The Concord–Lake Sunapee Rail Trail is a long-term project to create a scenic, family-friendly bike and walking path connecting communities along the historic Concord-Claremont Railroad line, stretching from Concord, NH, to the southern tip of Lake Sunapee. Passing through Concord, Hopkinton, Warner, Sutton, Bradford, and Newbury, parts of the trail are already open, with local volunteers working to complete the rest. The goal is to link independently usable sections into a 34-mile linear park from Concord to Lake Sunapee’s shore (with ice cream every seven miles!). Some towns have already upgraded segments along or near the original grade, while other areas will require planning with private landowners, infrastructure teams, and local communities to restore or reroute the trail. Early efforts focus on building strategic sections and using existing paths in each town to outline the route and keep the vision alive. A core team with representatives from each town coordinates the overall effort, while local teams address town-specific needs. Landowners’ wishes for quiet use will be respected, and collaboration with snowmobile groups will ensure shared sections are clearly marked and safe for everyone.

The hope/goal is to raise $10k going towards below listed Featured Projects: 

Newbury Elderly Housing to Lake Sunapee as a project.  Improving half mile stretch (widening and resurfacing) of railroad bed from housing apartments to Lake Sunapee/Newbury 

Warner Tom Pond Rd to Rt 103 East.  A half mile of trail connecting to a half mile of Annis Loop which gets people toward existing trail at Bagley.

Concord Horse Hill Rd to Lehtinen Park. 7/10 of a mile of brand new trail connecting directly to more trail in Concord and Hopkinton.

Warner Exit 8 Project (including two bridges).
