Every Horse Deserves A Safe Retirement

When a new horse arrives at Draft Gratitude, they don't know they're safe yet.

Many come to us tired, sore, and uncertain after a lifetime of work. Their first days matter. A dry place to rest. A safe place to eat. A quiet place to settle in.

This NH Gives, we're raising funds for three important updates that will improve comfort, safety, and care for the horses who call Draft Gratitude home.

First, we need a new shelter in our quarantine paddock. Every horse spends time there while receiving veterinary care, proper nutrition, and a chance to adjust to their new surroundings. The shelter will provide protection from harsh weather, shade in the summer, and an important layer of biosecurity for the rest of the herd.

We're also raising funds for two new feeding station shelters. As horses age, many need specialized diets and individual feeding plans. Separate feeding spaces help prevent competition, reduce stress, and ensure every horse gets the nutrition they need.

These structures mean so much more than a roof and three walls. 

A shelter means protection during a winter storm. Relief from the summer sun. A safe place for a new arrival to take a deep breath.

A feeding station means an older horse can enjoy a meal without being pushed away by a stronger herd mate.

Who We Are

Draft Gratitude is a nonprofit horse rescue in Winchester, New Hampshire dedicated to giving senior working draft horses a safe retirement. Since 2014, we have provided rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, sanctuary, and a Lifetime Safety Net for more than 100 horses. We are accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) and recognized as an EQUUS Foundation Guardian. Every horse we help receives the comfort, dignity, and care they deserve.
