This legislative session brought a serious challenge to the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, and the statewide network of crisis centers that survivors depend on.
A coordinated campaign attempted to undermine trust in victim services—discrediting survivors, targeting advocates, and pushing policies that would have weakened critical confidentiality protections. At the center of it all was HB1675, a dangerous bill that targeted victim privacy rights and threatened to defund 24/7 victim services.
For survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, child abuse, and human trafficking, confidentiality isn’t optional—it's everything. Survivors are able to come forward because they know their stories will be protected. Without that assurance, many would never reach out at all.
HB1675 put that trust at risk.
If passed, it would have created a harmful precedent by signaling out crisis centers as the only nonprofits in New Hampshire required to comply with demands for confidential information, thereby creating a pathway for abusers and bad actors to access deeply sensitive records.
But our community refused to let that happen.
Survivors, advocates, and allies raised their voices. They contacted lawmakers, shared their experiences, and made it clear that these protections are vital. Because of that collective opposition, the House voted to table HB1675, effectively stopping it from moving forward.
But the reality is that these attacks aren’t over. Defending survivors and the services they depend on requires ongoing vigilance and resources. Your gift during NH Gives can help us maintain a strong, statewide network of crisis centers and safeguard privacy protections that keep victims safe.
Together, we can ensure that every survivor has a safe place to turn, someone to believe them, and support they can trust—no matter what challenges lie ahead.
