The Pembroke Historical Society is committed to bringing the history of our town to those who want to learn about our past.  We are an all-volunteer organization providing historical educational programs, community outreach, and are developing a museum.

Our ultimate goal is to create a true history museum in the circa 1838 Buck Street Schoolhouse located behind Pembroke Town Hall.  In 2026 we aim to design and curate the displays for the museum's interior.  This is a major undertaking where collections and displays of historic Pembroke memorabilia will bring the past to life.  We are working to design the exhibits and displays.  We seek funds to design and procure signage, lighting, and to fabricate display installations to show off the museum materials collected.

In 2025 we proceeded with a grant to repair insect damage, provide a rain gutter for over the front door, and fabricate wooden shutters for seven windows!  Also, we purchased an air filtration unit to cleanse the air.  Future maintenance efforts will be to paint the exterior, window and roof repair, volunteers welcome!

     Check out our website! https://pembrokenhhistoricalsociety.com

Over 1,000 pictures are scanned in to view. Check it out for our programs, Town history, or to research Pembroke Land Grants and Houses. We offer Speakers, Historic Walking Tours, Outreach such as the Awarding of the Boston Post Cane, and Oral History Projects.  Our events are free and open to everyone.

Membership privileges include volunteering, notice of scheduled events and a voice in the Historical Society agenda.  If you choose to become a member you are invited to our Annual Meeting held the day after the Pembroke-Allenstown Old Home Day, Sunday August 23, 2026.

We rely on the contributions from the general public and the efforts of volunteers to carry out the mission and our work.  We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.  We welcome community involvement!
