Sato Heart Rescue

Sato Heart Rescue, located in Milford, NH, is a dedicated volunteer‑run dog rescue specializing in the safe transport, care, and adoption of "Satos" —Puerto Rico’s stray and abandoned street dogs. Through our exclusive partnership with Second Chance Animal Rescue of Puerto Rico (SCARPR) in Villalba, we help at‑risk dogs find loving, permanent homes throughout the New England region. 

What Is a Sato?

 Sato (pronounced saw‑toe) is the Puerto Rican term for a stray or street dog. These dogs come in all shapes and sizes, though most are small to medium. Many arrive shy or uncertain after surviving harsh conditions, but once they feel safe, their true personalities emerge—revealing affectionate, loyal, and playful companions.

Our Rescue Process

At Sato Heart Rescue, every dog receives individualized attention and compassionate care. During their stay at our rescue house, Satos interact with multiple volunteers, helping them build confidence and allowing us to understand their unique temperament. This hands‑on approach ensures we can match each dog with the right family.

All Sato Heart Rescue dogs come from SCARPR – Second Chance Animal Rescue of Puerto Rico, our parent organization and trusted partner in saving the lives of homeless dogs on the island.
