The Community Players of Concord, NH is an all-volunteer organization founded in 1927 to "encourage, foster and promote participation by amateurs in all phases of the theatrical arts." Over the decades, thousands of area residents have found a theatrical home with the Players, working on and presenting shows year after year for delighted area audiences.
Our Children's Theatre Project, launched in 1996, allows children to perform in their own fully produced shows at the Concord City Auditorium (“the Audi”). We also offer children’s musical theatre camps during winter and summer vacation.
The Players website is rich with information about its history and programs, including a list of past productions - at last count, well over 300 shows. A typical "season" for the Players includes 4 fully produced shows at the Audi, including one performed by the Children's Theatre Project. Workshops and trainings are also offered regularly.
The Players Studio, located at 435 Josiah Bartlett Road in Concord, NH is the organization's headquarters. All non-performance activities are held there, including auditions, rehearsals, set building, meetings and workshops. The Studio is also where the Players clean, build, repair and store thousands of costumes, props and set pieces which they regularly lend out to other theatre groups, schools, civic organizations, church groups and others, with more than 155 such organizations served over the years.
The Players is an open and welcoming environment where adults and children learn, share, grow and have fun while working toward common goals in the theatrical arts. Accessibility is an ongoing priority for us. Most recently, we have begun offering ASL interpreters at our performances to better serve Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members. Expanding this effort is a key goal for our organization.
This year’s donations to NH Gives will be directed to an ongoing, dedicated fund that will help cover the cost of hiring ASL interpreters for each of the four shows we present annually at the Concord City Auditorium, including our children’s show in October. By increasing the number of interpreted performances we can offer, we hope to remove barriers that prevent some community members from fully experiencing live theatre.
Our generous supporter Lord Xonox has once again offered us a $1,000 challenge gift. Lord Xonox will match, dollar for dollar, online gifts made to us through NH Gives, while the funds last! We welcome your gift in any amount during NH Gives!
