Hey friends,
I want to tell you about some of the kids I've worked with at Unchartered Tutoring.
They came in with their guard up. Arms crossed, slouched in chairs, testing every boundary they could find, waiting to see if the patience in the room was real or just another adult performance they could outlast. Some of them slept through the first few sessions entirely. Some created volatile situations just to watch what would happen next.
I get it. Most of these kids have spent years being treated like problems to manage rather than people to invest in. They've been handled, not heard. What they hadn't encountered yet was someone willing to just show up, consistently, with curiosity instead of frustration, and stay there.
So that's what I did. I'm a lead tutor with Unchartered, and a lot of the students I'm placed with are the ones others have given up on. Over time, something shifted. The walls came down, slowly, then all at once. The same kids who wouldn't make eye contact started stopping by my classroom just to say hello. The same ones who sat silent started shouting "I love you" in the hallways.
That's not a metaphor. That actually happened.
That's what Unchartered does. It doesn't just teach science through art. It shows up in rooms where too many people have stopped showing up, and it reminds students that they belong, that they're capable, and that they are worth the investment.
This year Unchartered is fundraising during NH Gives, June 9th-10th. NH Gives is a statewide 24-hour giving event run by the NH Center for Nonprofits, and it gives organizations like Unchartered a chance to reach new supporters and put their mission in front of a wider audience.
Our goal is $5,000. Every dollar goes directly toward hands-on science materials, real experiments in real classrooms, and programs delivered to students who wouldn't otherwise have access to any of it.
With each $20 you can fund one class for one student.
Not someday. Not theoretically. Immediately.
You can donate before NH Gives through Zeffy, fundraise on our behalf, or give during the event itself on June 9th-10th. Every donation has a direct impact on students across New Hampshire.
We're all part of a community. At some point, every one of us needs that community to show up for us. This is one of those chances to pour into it.
Thank you for seeing these kids the way they deserve to be seen.

P.S. Every dollar you donate during NH Gives brings us closer to our goal of putting real science, real art, and real connection into the hands of students who need it most. Please get involved.
