When I tell people I work at Dover Children's Home, I often get one of two responses:
"So you have troubled kids there?"
"Bless your heart."
Every social worker rolls their eyes at these responses. In my work at DCH, I work to build relationships with the strongest, most resilient people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. To hear these kids be labeled as "problems" "troubled" or even "dangerous" is the greatest misconception someone could make. Our kids are not "troubled"--they carry burdens they did not choose and experienced more hardship than most. Despite this, our youth are funny, smart, artistic, creative, and care deeply about the people around them. It is a honor for me to serve this population and interact with such an amazing group of young adults every day. Your donations can help give our youth what they deserve, and they deserve to be seen for their incredible potential, not their circumstance.
