Exceptional Care. Extraordinary Childhoods

At Cedarcrest, exceptional care is only the beginning.

Every day, children and young adults with complex medical needs receive skilled nursing care, specialized therapies, and educational support that help them thrive. But childhood is about more than medical care. It's about exploring new places, discovering new interests, celebrating milestones, building friendships, and creating joyful memories.

Through Cedarcrest's enrichment programs, children and young adults experience field trips, adaptive recreation, music and art activities, community outings, special events, holiday celebrations, prom, summer adventures, and so much more. These experiences help build confidence, foster connection, encourage learning, and create the moments that make childhood extraordinary.

Unlike medical and educational services, enrichment programs are not funded through Medicaid or educational reimbursement. They are made possible through the generosity of donors like you.

During NH Gives, your support helps ensure every child and young adult at Cedarcrest has the opportunity to experience the joy, adventure, and wonder of childhood.

Together, we can provide exceptional care and extraordinary childhoods.

Mission: Cedarcrest enriches the lives of children with complex medical and developmental needs, supports their families, and collaborates with other community providers to ensure a continuum of care.

Our state-of-the-art facility in Keene, NH serves children and young adults (birth through 22 years) who are dependent on 24-hour nursing support, for short or long-term care . In addition to, or as a result of their medical circumstances, all of the children and youth experience the educational and communication challenges of significant cognitive impairment and profound deficits in adaptive behaviors. Children come with a range of complex medical diagnoses, including seizure disorders, neurological disorders, cerebral palsy, hypoxic and traumatic brain injuries, muscular dystrophies, orthopedic complications, and compromised digestive and respiratory systems, resulting in the need for feeding tubes, tracheostomies, and oxygen support.

Cedarcrest is the only post-acute provider in NH for children who are ventilator-dependent. Our respiratory therapist and nurses treat chronic lung conditions like asthma as well as acute conditions such as bronchitis and pneumonia. In 2025, nearly half of our residents were ventilator-dependent for a portion or all of each child's day. For some, however, their dependence is diminishing due to the success of our ventilator-weaning program.  In addition to residential care, the center also offers on-site special education and physical, occupational, and speech/communication therapies through the Cedarcrest School.

Funds donated through the 2026 NH Gives campaign will support our Special Equipment Fund, ensuring every child at Cedarcrest has access to the latest innovations in adaptive equipment to meet their needs.

Who We Are

Cedarcrest's rich history as a 24-hour medical facility and school has laid a solid foundation for today’s work. A firm commitment to meet the needs of the children and their families, strong nursing, educational, and therapy services, and a warm, homelike environment are Cedarcrest’s building blocks, but the mortar is the caring, dedicated staff who have brought Cedarcrest this far.
