The Seacoast Dyslexia Center is a dedicated nonprofit organization that provides free, year-round tutoring services for school-aged children form elementary through high school, who have dyslexia.  Students come to us from throughout the Seacoast and Lakes regions of New Hampshire, with some families traveling more than an hour to receive services.

In addition to tutoring, we train and certify educators in the Orton-Gillingham method, widely recognized as the gold standard for teaching students with dyslexia.  Currently our Center serves 32 students at an annual cost of $6100 per student.

Dyslexia is a learning disability in about 1 out of 5 people that makes it difficult for people to read, write and spell.  Because we believe every student should have access to high-quality reading and writing instruction, we opened the Seacoast Dyslexia Center in 2004.  Since then, we have served over 600 students and 300 tutors.

What students are saying about the Seacoast Children's Dyslexia Center

Kids picked on me because I was at a lower reading level.  I felt stupid and dumb.  I was very depressed and wanted to stay home all day.  I didn't want to see my teachers; I just couldn't face the world.  On the first day I went to the Center, they made me feel welcome.  I met other kids that had dyslexia.  I saw some older kids that had been there for a while and they said it was really fun- not like school. I started at the Center when I was 11, and am 14 now.  I read more often and am happy when I read.  I understand what I'm reading and get good grades now.   I didn't think I'd ever go to college, and now I want to go to college to be a teacher for kids with dyslexia.  I want to show them what I learned.  I want them to understand they can do better in their lives and that dyslexia doesn't have to be the end of everything. -Katie

What parents are saying about the Seacoast Children's Dyslexia Center

Words cannot express how thankful I am for the work you and the Dyslexia Center have done for my son, Charlie.  My son's inability to read caused so much stress and anxiety for him.  Now that his dyslexia has been identified, and he has been accepted into the program, a huge weight has been lifted off my heart.  I am thrilled with the progress Charlie has made over the past year.  Nothing warms my heart more than seeing my son pick up a book to read. -Jennifer

What tutors are saying about the Seacoast Children's Dyslexia Center

Having the opportunity to see two students progress and gain confidence in their abilities has been so rewarding.  The support from the staff including specific feedback, suggestions for my lesson plans, and personal, one-on-one observations and feedback have cemented my understanding of the practice and exceeded my expectations.  -Ingrid
