Feeding Tiny Tummies is a dynamic non-profit organization founded in 2017 by Jennifer Knox Dassau, and proudly recognized as a 501(c)(3) since 2019. We have rigorously expanded our operations and will not stop until we achieve even greater heights. Initially, we focused on serving local Head Start programs by providing bags of non-perishable food starting with 35 Head Start families. We have transformed this approach into a robust "one bag, one child, one week" initiative now delivering weekly essentials such as nutritious produce, dairy, bread, nonperishables, and meat directly to families in need.

Our reach has extended beyond Cheshire County to Sullivan County, and we actively provide services to multiple daycares and public schools through dedicated volunteer deliveries. We now serve over 1 thousand school to home food bags going home with children, in addition to reaching more then 700 families within the community monthly through our open hours. With the support of devoted volunteers, our program distributes meals and educational resources to schools across around 16 locations, 3 elderly housing complexes, along with 3 town pantries. Our mission is not only to nourish the bodies of children and those in need, but also their minds, ensuring a brighter future for the next generation.

Our pantry is open to all who are in need, operating for four hours each week:

Tuesdays from 9:30am-10am is (seniors only). Tuesdays from 10a-12p is general community.

Thursdays from 4:30-5pm are (seniors only). Thursdays from 5-6:30pm is general community.

On November 1, 2024, we took a risk and launched the Preloved Project, a thrift store designed to generate support for Feeding Tiny Tummies. Through strategic partnerships with area agencies, we ensure that families can shop for essential clothing and household items they require. We take pride in serving our community and are beyond grateful for our community donors.

Who We Are

We are a volunteer-driven program dedicated to providing take-home bags of food for children facing food insecurity. In partnership with local schools, community centers, and various agencies locally that assist with deliveries, we currently serve approximately 600 families each week.

In addition to nutritious food items, each bag includes a family engagement activity, such as a children's book, activity book, or other interactive resources designed to encourage learning and quality time at home.

Childhood hunger can have a significant impact on a child's well-being and development. Children who do not have reliable access to nutritious meals may struggle to concentrate and succeed academically, exhibit behavioral challenges, and face increased risks of health and dental problems. By helping meet these basic needs, our program supports children and families while promoting healthier, more successful outcomes both in and out of the classroom.

Our mission statement:

Feeding the tummies and the minds of the next generation; One Bag, One Week, One Child at a time!
