Hi, we’re Granite State Dog Recovery. We are comprised of a very small team of dog loving people who dedicate our lives to "reuniting lost dogs with their families and sheltering the abandoned" in New Hampshire. GSDR first started over 20 years ago with a single trap and the will to get a newly adopted lost dog back to their forever home. With that, the will turned into reality as GSDR came to be an official nonprofit in 2011.

Back then, we started out on the “new” social media platform called Facebook and slowly gained followers with each lost dog reunion we posted. Today, with over 210,000 followers we couldn’t be more grateful. Every person who shares a poster, likes a story, sends a private message is beneficial to the success of our organization and the reunion of lost dogs.

Most of the team at Granite State Dog Recovery have been participating in lost dog recovery for over 10 years. Equipment has evolved and so have our methods adding essential “tricks of the trade” to our toolbox. GSDR even opened an animal shelter in Hooksett, NH in 2020. We help abandoned dogs find their new forever homes and give stray dogs a new lease on life with a perfectly matched family. The shelter has even helped with pregnant dogs, hoarding cases including 82 Boxers who were rescued from an overpopulated breeder and partnering with local law enforcement to remove puppies and dogs from abusive households.

Do we physically go “out” for every single lost dog in New Hampshire? No. Do we physically create every poster, answer phone calls, reply to emails and private messages for those dogs? Yes. The dogs which we do need our physical assistance get every part of our attention. We see our team members more than our own families during those times. We get up and leave our homes in the middle of the night, answer phone calls when we’re dead asleep, throw our shoes on and book it to a trapping location because we need to let a wild animal out of a trap before the dog sees it, and skip sleeping to go straight to work if we’ve been up all night trapping a lost or stray dog. This work isn’t for the faint of heart or a hobby that can be done at our leisure. We work on lost dog time which is ALL the time.

GSDR does this out of the goodness of our hearts. We operate on donations, monetary and physical goods from the generosity of our followers. The generosity does not go unnoticed with every donation sent, Amazon package delivered and goodie bags dropped at our front door. Our organization could not continue this mission without your support. Since we do not charge a fee for lost dog recovery, we need all the help we can get. Expenses for operating our animal shelter, cameras monthly service fees, equipment purchases, food costs, gas for our van, and the like add up.
