A Community Where Promise Lives
For more than 120 years, Monadnock Family Services has been a source of health, hope, and healing for the people of the Monadnock Region. Since 1905, we have stood beside our neighbors through life's most difficult moments, helping children, adults, and families find support, connection, and a path forward.
Today, MFS serves more than 2,400 individuals each year across 35 towns in Cheshire and western Hillsborough counties. From youth development and family support to crisis services, substance misuse recovery, counseling, and older adult care, our mission remains the same: ensuring that no one has to face life's challenges alone.
But today, our community faces a heartbreaking reality.
Suicide rates in Cheshire County exceed both state and national averages. Behind every statistic is a person: a teenager struggling in silence, a parent overwhelmed by despair, a veteran carrying unseen wounds, or a neighbor who simply cannot see a way forward.
These are not strangers. They are members of our community. And we believe every life is worth fighting for.
Why NH Gives Matters
This year, Monadnock Family Services is raising support for our Zero Suicide Initiative, a bold commitment to creating a community where every person experiencing a mental health crisis is met with compassion, support, and a renewal of life.
Zero Suicide is more than a program. It is a promise.
A promise that we will do everything possible to identify those at risk, connect them to care, train our workforce in evidence-based prevention practices, and build a stronger safety net across the Monadnock Region. It means expanding crisis response services, strengthening follow-up care, and ensuring that people receive support when they need it most.
Every gift made during NH Gives helps make that promise real.
Your donation helps answer a crisis call at 2 a.m. It helps a young person receive life-saving support before reaching a breaking point. It helps a family navigate fear and uncertainty. It helps ensure that hope is available when it is needed most.
The Hidden Crisis
Behind the quiet beauty of our Monadnock hills, our grandfathers, fathers, and aging neighbors are suffering in heartbreaking silence.
Driven by overwhelming isolation, chronic pain, and a lost sense of purpose, older men in New Hampshire face a staggering suicide rate—more than five times higher than older women. This generation rarely asks for help; instead, they quietly fade away in the shadows of our rural towns.
Your gift to Monadnock Family Services’ Zero Suicide Initiative changes everything. We are actively breaking down the walls of stigma, reaching into their isolation with deep compassion, and intervening before it is too late.
Please give today. Your donations will fund MFS staff training in the Zero Suicide Initiative to help older men trapped in their darkest moments, bringing life-saving light and ensuring they know their lives are still deeply valued.
