“Disability is the only identity that anyone can suddenly take on at any time.” — Emily Ladau
In January 2026, Distant Hill received a grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to purchase a TerrainHopper all-terrain mobility vehicle. This adaptive equipment enables individuals with mobility limitations to explore most of our trail network and gardens, experiencing the natural beauty of Distant Hill.
Designed to navigate rugged terrain—including forest trails, roots, rocks, and hills—the TerrainHopper provides access to areas of our 155-acre property that are otherwise difficult or impossible to reach with standard mobility devices. Our goal is to remove barriers and create inclusive opportunities so that everyone in our community can experience the physical and mental health benefits of time spent outdoors.
How Can You Help?
We need your support to keep our TerrainHopper Accessibility Program running and growing. Your contribution will help cover the ongoing costs of this vital community service, maintain our existing trails, and create even more trails for EVERYONE to explore!
'Live Free and Ride' at Distant Hill
The mission of Distant Hill Gardens and Nature Trail is to make nature and the outdoors accessible to everyone. We strive to inspire and empower children and adults of all abilities to cultivate a deep connection with the natural world through education, observation, and play, while highlighting the importance of nature-based recreation for overall health and wellness.
Friends of Distant Hill is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit arm of Distant Hill Gardens and Nature Trail located in Walpole, and Alstead, NH, USA.
