At the New Hampshire Art Association, we believe everyone deserves a place to gather, connect, and create. As a gallery that is free and open to all, NHAA serves as a third space - a welcoming environment outside of home and work where community can thrive.
Throughout the year, our galleries come alive with over 30 exhibitions, fabulous opening receptions featuring live music and refreshments, artist talks, poetry nights, improv meetups, dinner club, and creative programs designed to bring people together. We are more than an art gallery, NHAA is a place where community thrives. Sharing our voices at a poetry night, connecting with peers through art, and curating small-scale installations in our public restroom, the WC Gallery. NHAA is a balm for our disconnected world, offering accessible opportunities to stop scrolling and engage with creativity in-person.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 to sustain and expand the programs that make NHAA a vibrant and vital part of our community. Thanks to a generous donor, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000, doubling your impact.
Here’s what your gift supports:
A vibrant gallery in the heart of downtown Portsmouth exclusively exhibiting the work of regional artists, with a free, joyful opening reception on the First Friday of every month
Free, bi-monthly poetry nights with readers and an open mic, encouraging creative self-expression in a supportive environment
Frequent artist talks at low to no cost, featuring NHAA members and local artists discussing their artwork and process
Cultivating a space where art makes an impact via community events, artist working groups and transformative exhibitions
It gets even better! The first 10 donors who give $250 or more will receive a limited edition print of Bit by Bit, by the late artist Barbara Morse, generously donated by Alan Morse in her memory.
Originally incorporated in 1940, New Hampshire Art Association (NHAA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit contemporary arts organization dedicated to exhibiting and supporting emerging regional artists. In 1990, NHAA opened its doors in Portsmouth, New Hampshire at 136 State Street thanks to philanthropists, lenders, and leadership who recognized the need for a community space to support the visual arts. We operate thanks to the generosity of artists, audiences, and donors for whom we are grateful.
