Your support brings help and hope to families in times of need.
The New Hampshire Chapter of the American Red Cross serves people across the entire Granite State. With more than 950 active volunteers who log 82,000 hours of service, and a small group of dedicated employees, we provide relief in the wake of disaster, life-saving blood, support to military members & veterans,, and training that saves lives. Last year, we responded to over 250 disaster cases in New Hampshire, and provided comfort, care, and direct financial assistance to 625 residents. We installed over 1,000 free smoke alarms to make residents' homes safer and provided free fire safety and preparedness training to 3,000 children. Generous blood donors helped us collect more than 61,000 units of blood to help save lives across New Hampshire and beyond.
Support from donors like you is what makes our work possible.
Although the Red Cross is congressionally chartered to respond to disasters, less than 2% of our annual operating budget comes from federal sources. We rely on the generosity of our donors and volunteers to fulfill our mission. We continue to experience an alarming increase in the frequency of disasters in New Hampshire, New England and across the country. Whether it is a flood, home fire, or a hurricane, The Red Cross is there in the wake of disaster with food, shelter, mental health support, and financial assistance. Our disaster responders help individuals and families navigate the challenging process of recovery until all their needs are met. All services are completely free of charge.
The American Red Cross, through its volunteers, donors, and partners, is always there in times of need, turning compassion into action so that all people affected by disaster receive care, shelter and hope; our communities are prepared for disasters; everyone has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; all armed services members and their families find support and comfort when needed; and there are always trained individuals nearby, ready to use their Red Cross skills to save lives.
Seven Fundamental Principles guide us:
Humanity – Protect life and health and to ensure respect for human beings and promote mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation, and lasting peace among all peoples.
Impartiality – We endeavor to relieve the suffering of individuals, guided solely by their needs, giving priority to the most urgent cases of distress.
Neutrality – Do not take sides in hostilities or engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.
Independence – Always maintain our autonomy, while respecting local laws, so that we can act in accordance with Red Cross principles.
Voluntary Service – Voluntary relief movement not prompted by desire for gain.
Unity – Only one Red Cross in any country. It must be open to all and conduct humanitarian work throughout its territory.
Universality – Worldwide institution in which all societies have equal status and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other.
