Why arts and medicine? Empathy. 

Through theatrical storytelling we encounter empathy. We take the science and the textbooks and give it the humanity that the community experiences. Take, for example, the difficult health topics of anxiety, addiction, or dementia. In our productions, we give these topics that give them life in front of an audience. When the audience consists of healthcare providers, it produces reactions like these:  

“So moving and intense. I was wondering how they would truly exhibit the feelings of anxiety—I was blown away by how they captured the essence.”

"Sometimes it is difficult for patients to describe their symptoms, and this movement interpretation expressed what words cannot. Nice job!"

“The story was so powerful through art. It was very impactful.”

DOTTIE - A film about dementia and empathy.

At Articine, we’re excited to bring our mission of integrating the arts and medicine to life with the production of Dottie, a film based on the nuances of dementia. Coupling this film with educational workshops will allow us to unlock conversations around care, healing, support, and legacy for healthcare workers and caregivers alike. With the help of our award-winning film team, Dottie will be a professional education tool that increases accessibility and understanding of the struggles and dimensions of dementia, while inspiring healthcare providers to deliver more effective and empathetic patient care. We look forward to bringing this film and its message to medical professionals around the country.
