In 2017, Bub Morgan, a Vietnam veteran, recreation director, Wall Street banker, community organizer, husband and father, and best friend to all, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and given six months to live. Through his unwavering will, the support of friends and family, and the help of organizations such as the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), he was able to spend four more years with his friends and family.
He left a successful career in Wall Street to move to a quieter life in the countryside, one where he could focus on his family and the community. He took the lead in raising funds for a new Wilmot Community Association building and started the youth lacrosse program in New London with his friend Steve Hadley, becoming the director of the Outing Club (OC) in New London for ten years. His sons were lucky to have him around to coach their lacrosse teams, and he was there to watch every football and baseball game.
His passion was the Outing Club and its mission to provide sports, recreational, social, educational, and wellness programs and activities and support student-athletes in the greater Kearsarge area. They have a need-blind approach to ensure every child can participate, regardless of financial means. As a coach, he was a strong proponent of "letting the kids play," tying in the history and legacy, especially lacrosse, and why sportsmanship and character are strong values. It's more about honor than winning. And it was not a win if there was no honor involved.
After being diagnosed, the New Hampshire lacrosse community rallied around him and came up with the name Bub Strong to exemplify his tenacious spirit. The Bub Strong Foundation, a New Hampshire 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated in 2021 by family and friends in his memory after he passed away, carries this name. The mission is to continue Bub's legacy and passion for community, sportsmanship, giving back, and hard work, especially the local lacrosse community, by organizing an annual golf scramble, pig roast, and men's lacrosse jamboree fundraising event every July around his birthday. This July 11-12 will be our 5th Annual Bub Strong Memorial Classic. It benefits the Outing Club, pancreatic cancer research and support through PanCAN, and veteran support through the Liberty House in Manchester. In addition, the foundation awards two college scholarships to a graduating senior girls and boys lacrosse player at Kearsarge Regional High School every spring who exemplifies Bub's spirit, tenacity, and courage. Last year's event raised over $14,000, with over 100 participants over the weekend. We appreciate your consideration and support!
