The Need
Affordable Workforce Housing for Everyday People
For more than 37 years, CATCH Neighborhood Housing has provided places that everyday people can call home. Places where memories are made, children can sleep soundly at night, and where all of our residents feel safe and valued. Today, for NHGives, we are asking you to make a donation to help ensure that we can continue to create communities through quality affordable housing, financial education, and housing counseling services for many years to come!
Today, affordable and workforce housing for low- and moderate families and individuals is at a premium in New Hampshire. Rental costs continue to rise, and housing market inflation over the past many years has forced more people to rent rather than buy. The housing created by CATCH helps people like teachers, nurses, and policemen who are starting out in their jobs. It helps folks working in desperately needed but often underpaid non-profit and service jobs, young families, veterans, retirees, single parents and all others who make our communities a better place, but who have a limited income that does not support buying or owning a home in this difficult housing market.
Your donation to NH Gives is an investment into the long term health of New Hampshire, and your gift will support:
- Community spaces and events that bring CATCH residents together as good neighbors
- Preliminary early-phase development work like engineering and architectural drawings required to apply for Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and begin construction
- Programming and partnerships that promote our residents' safety, financial well-being, and physical and mental health
Everyday people with good jobs face several challenges in our state, from financial literacy to understanding the available resources in their communities to improve health and happiness. Housing insecurity needs to be eliminated in New Hampshire for our state economy to thrive and CATCH is up to the challenge! According to recent housing needs assessments, the rental market vacancy rates hover around 1%, well below the 5% benchmark for healthy communities. In addition, an average median sale price for a single-family home is elevated, at round $535,000, forcing individuals and families to rent longer to save. By 2040, New Hampshire will need nearly 88,400 units to meet the state's housing demand. This is where CATCH can make a difference by providing safe and affordable homes, fair and reasonable property management through CATCH's subsidiary non-profit Alliance Asset Management, and financial literacy for those working to take the next step in home ownership through HOMEteam.
