Help Make Distant Hill More Wheelchair and Stroller Accessible!

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." – Helen Keller

Public trails are more important than ever, particularly the few local trails in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire that are wheelchair and stroller accessible, such as the Distant Hill Nature Trail. We offer almost two miles of gently sloping, smooth gravel trails open to the public, free of charge, seven days a week.

Thanks to your donations to NH Gives in 2024, we added a quarter-mile of accessible trail to our expanding network of wheelchair- and stroller-friendly trails at Distant Hill.

Your 2025 NH Gives donations will enable us to construct an additional quarter-mile of wheelchair- and stroller-accessible trail. This project will involve adding gravel to a section of the lower loop of the Distant Hill Geology Trail, providing even more accessible trail for visitors to explore.

You Also Helped us Build an Accessible Community Pavilion in 2024!

With the help of your NH Gives donations and a grant from Kubota Tractor Corporation, we built a beautiful wheelchair-accessible pavilion at Distant Hill Nature Trail in 2024!

Bensonwood, a local home builder specializing in timber frames and energy-efficient homes, crafted the timber frame in their shop in Walpole, NH.

The accessible timber frame pavilion project was a true community endeavor, with volunteers playing a vital role in its success. Your generous NH Gives donations helped make the pavilion possible!

Our Mission - "To inspire and empower children and adults, no matter their ability, to cultivate an intimate connection to the natural world through education, observation, and play, and to teach visitors the importance of nature-based play and recreation to their overall health and wellness."
