In 2014, a local obstetrician and prenatal nurse were alarmed by the rising number of pregnant women unable to access treatment for substance use disorder (SUD). Moved to act, they rallied the community to create a safe, nurturing residential treatment home—and in 2016, Hope on Haven Hill (HHH) opened its doors in Rochester, doubling the number of SUD treatment beds available to pregnant and postpartum women in New Hampshire.
Since then, HHH has grown to meet the evolving needs of pregnant and parenting women in recovery. Soon after launching residential treatment, we added an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). In 2019, recognizing the lack of safe recovery housing, we opened Abi’s Place, allowing mothers to continue their recovery journey with their children in a supportive home.
In 2020, a successful $3.25 million capital campaign funded the construction of the Center for Hope and Wellness—an 8,000-square-foot hub offering outpatient treatment, medical and psychiatric care, child care, life skills training, and administrative offices. The campaign also enabled the purchase of Camilla’s Place, our first permanent, affordable recovery housing program.
In alignment with our mission to support women through all aspects of recovery and parenting, HHH proudly partners with the NH Mom Hub, which connects mothers and healthcare providers to compassionate, evidence-based mental health support. Through peer support, care navigation, and community collaboration, NH Mom Hub ensures that no mother faces perinatal mental health challenges alone.
Today, Hope on Haven Hill provides a full continuum of care, including:
Residential and outpatient SUD treatment
Mental health and medical care
Psychiatric services
Child care during group counseling
Case management and life skills training
Nurturing parenting classes
Recovery and alumni support groups
Safe, affordable housing
Women on our residential waitlist can still access our full range of outpatient services. Last year alone, we served over 150 women and their children, but the need continues to outpace capacity—our waitlist remains active.
With your support, we can continue empowering pregnant and parenting women with SUD to build healthier futures—for themselves and their families.
Hope On Haven Hill is a charitable, nonprofit, residential facility serving pregnant women with Substance Use Disorder along with their newborns with excellence, dignity and respect as they work to reclaim their lives.
Residential beds for this population are limited in New Hampshire. We have a robust program with clinically licensed Social Workers who are Masters level trained in Alcohol and Drug Counseling. All aspects of their addiction and other contributing mental health disorders are addressed on site in the comfort of a loving, nurturing home. Ongoing case management link women with the social services that they need all the while making sure that their pregnancy is well taken care of with community providers. All transportation is provided for the residents of Hope On Haven Hill to any and all programming or appointments that are offsite.
The goal of Hope On Haven Hill is to number one stop the relapsing cycle of addiction by arming women with the necessary mental, physical and educational tools to sustain heir sobriety as they transition out of our program at the completion of their time with us. This coupled with helping them learn how to be the best parenting moms for their children that they can be, will have a huge impact on our youngest and most vulnerable members of the next generation. We all know that substance use disorder has a genetic component however by surrounding a child with role models that exemplify healthy lifestyles and relationships we can do our best to reduce the genetic component risk.
We are blessed with a large group of volunteers from all aspects of life who are ready to help us make this happen. If you would like to join us please either consider making a donation or email us through our website to request a volunteer application. www.hopeonhavenhill.org
