Since 1994—Lil’ Iguana’s Children’s Safety Foundation has been on a mission to keep kids safe, healthy, and kind through proactive, engaging, and age-appropriate education. It all started with a simple idea: teach young children critical safety and well-being skills before they’re faced with real-world challenges. From that vision, Lil’ Iguana was created—a bright, music-loving character who connects with kids in a way traditional programs simply can’t.
What began as a local initiative has grown into a nationally recognized foundation that has reached over 5 million children through in-school programs, community events, digital resources, and educational products. At the heart of our programming is prevention—we focus on teaching children ages 2-10 how to identify and respond to potentially dangerous situations using music-driven learning, role-play, and interactive play.
Our lessons cover more than just physical safety. We teach a wide range of essential life skills including: proper handwashing, recognizing and responding to their “Harm Alarm” (that gut feeling that something isn’t right), avoiding stranger danger, online safety, emotional regulation, bullying prevention, kindness, and making safe choices. These topics are delivered through school assemblies, Safety UP! digital curriculum, classroom materials, and family-friendly media like music videos, games, and printable activities.
Over the years, we’ve heard powerful stories from families, teachers, and even kids themselves—children who recognized a dangerous situation and spoke up, used their safety skills to help a friend, or simply felt more confident navigating their world. Lil’ Iguana has become more than a character—he’s a trusted guide for children and a valuable partner for the adults who care for them. Our work proves that when children are taught how to be safe and kind from an early age, they carry those lessons with them for life.
Lil' Iguana's Children's Safety Foundation teaches proactive safety educational programs for children ages two to eight through music-based prevention performances to save kids from abduction, abuse, child predators, and serious accidental injuries while instilling self-worth, respect, and manners. Our lessons include topics like I Wash My Hands, Get Permission, Who’s a Stranger, Harm Alarm, Buckle-Up, Water Safety & Street Smarts. For over 25 years, Lil' Iguana prepares children to not be scared, but rather be prepared for whatever life comes their way.
