NH Lawyers Assistance Program

A nonprofit organization

Help us raise $5,000 to support the people behind New Hampshire’s legal community.

Lawyers, judges, law students, and legal support professionals carry enormous responsibility. Too often, they also carry stress, burnout, anxiety, depression, substance use concerns, and personal struggles in silence. Fear, stigma, and demanding schedules can make it hard to ask for help before a crisis point.

The New Hampshire Lawyers Assistance Program (NHLAP) is here to make that first step easier.

NHLAP provides confidential support, education, referrals, peer connections, and wellness programming for New Hampshire’s legal community. We meet people with compassion, connect them with trusted resources, and remind them they are not alone.

And the need is growing. NHLAP now supports lawyers, judges, law students, faculty, and law firm support staff through wellness education, training, and direct assistance. This fiscal year alone, NHLAP has received more than 200 requests for support.

Every contact with NHLAP is confidential. Reaching out does not put someone’s law license or professional reputation at risk. It simply opens the door to help.

When someone reaches out to NHLAP, they may feel overwhelmed, ashamed, exhausted, or unsure where to turn. Your gift helps us meet them with one clear message:

You are not alone. Help is here.

NHLAP is funded through a $30 Lawyers Assistance Program assessment fee included in annual Bar membership dues. As a nonprofit, we also rely on fundraising to strengthen our programs, sustain our infrastructure, and keep pace with rising demand.

Our Giving Day goal of $5,000 will help NHLAP provide:

  • Practical wellness education on stress, burnout, resilience, self-care, and healthy coping strategies.
  • Confidential, one-on-one support for law students, lawyers, judges, and legal professionals facing challenges.
  • Trusted referrals to therapists, treatment providers, coaches, mentors, and peer support volunteers.
  • Outreach and resources so more people know confidential help is available before crisis hits.
  • New programs, tools, and evidence-based approaches that support well-being in the legal profession.
  • Partnerships with professionals who bring creative, effective solutions to legal wellness.
  • A welcoming client space that feels safe, respectful, and supportive from the moment someone walks in.

In NHLAP’s first year participating in NH Gives, members of New Hampshire’s legal community contributed $1,900. This year, we hope to build on that generosity as we work to diversify funding and ensure NHLAP remains strong, responsive, and available to those who need us.

Please donate today to help NHLAP strengthen well-being, reduce stigma, and build a healthier legal profession in New Hampshire.
