Women of the Mountains Birth Initiative (WOMB Initiative)

WOMB is proud to join this movement to help spread generosity throughout the North Country. WOMB
was founded in 2021 by a group of inspiring local women, who all have a drive to serve the women of the North
Country of NH and the Northeast Kingdom of VT. Since inception, WOMB has offered several
educational classes related to pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum; about 15 different classes to
be precise. WOMB has also hosted multiple Birth Story & Breastfeeding circles, a time-honored tradition
of joining with other women and being supported, helping to foster community and collective
understanding. We have been able to reach over 100 individual women over the past 3 years, many who
have come to several events.

The path to motherhood
changes us, and no woman should have to navigate this journey alone. But unfortunately, our
childbirth system is increasingly overextended, and women are suffering. With
the recent closure of 3 out of our 5 labor & delivery units in our region
alone, perinatal providers are being asked to serve more women with less time
and fewer resources. As a result, expecting
mothers are being asked to wait longer and travel further for care, even as
pre-term labor, c-section rates, and childbirth mortality rates are on the
rise. 

That is why WOMB
Initiative exists. Through our three pillars (resources, education, & community), we provide personalized and
unbiased perinatal information, resources, and emotional support for every
expecting and postpartum mother throughout their pregnancy and into motherhood
– accessible to everyone, regardless of income. Because when women feel
connected and informed, it leads to healthier outcomes for them, for their
babies, and for all of us. So join us. Let’s make sure no woman has to navigate
this journey alone.
