For more than a decade, The Freedom Café has transformed coffee, community, and conscious action into a powerful force against human trafficking and exploitation.
What began as a small student-led vision in Durham, New Hampshire, has grown into a thriving nonprofit café and community space where people come together to learn, connect, and take meaningful action toward a more just world. Human trafficking and exploitation often thrive where communities are disconnected, vulnerable, or uninformed. At The Freedom Café, we believe prevention begins locally—through education, ethical action, and strong community relationships.
My own journey with The Freedom Café began in the winter of 2021, when I started volunteering during my freshman year of college. At the time, I never imagined I would still be involved more than five years later. What started as a two-hour volunteer shift each week grew into three years of volunteering, followed by joining the staff team after graduating in 2024.
The Freedom Café has become much more than a place where I volunteer, work, or grab a cup of coffee. It has introduced me to lifelong friends and mentors, inspired my passion for educating communities and ending exploitation, and helped me build a sense of belonging in the Seacoast. Through this organization, I have found opportunities to grow, serve others, and connect with a community that I am proud to call home.
During our NH Gives Campaign, we are asking for your support. Every donation, large or small, helps The Freedom Café continue educating communities, fostering meaningful connections, and working to prevent human trafficking and exploitation.
