A Matching Gift in Memory of Millie Liff

I am reaching out to you as a board member of Our Homestead, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit formed by 5 families dedicated to developing housing opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the greater Manchester area. New Hampshire is a state with limited resources and archaic policies developed after the closing of The Laconia State School in 1991. Currently, 73% of adults with IDD in NH continue to live at home. 27% of those adults live with parents or caregivers who are over 60. Some eventually become homeless.

On May 2nd, the Liff Family lost our matriarch, Millie. Millie was blessed with 95 years and lived a beautiful life. She loved her family, and as her grandchildren sought higher education opportunities, she was eager to support them. What many of you may not know is that her grandson Marc is an adult with Autism. She often asked how to best support him, and she worried about his future. As a former public school teacher, she did not understand how the state of New Hampshire could basically ignore this growing population, especially when many states are eager to support residences that allow adults with disabilities to age in place with dignity. In honor of Millie’s memory, her sons Steve and Perry, along with their wives Patrice and Gloria, are offering a match of up to $3,000 to support the continued development of Our Homestead’s vision.

Last November, Our Homestead held its first fundraising event, where many of you kindly donated to our cause. Because of your generosity, we were able to hire a consultant to help us draft both a business plan and a strategic plan. We have attended webinars that have given us valuable information. We have expanded our board, developed in-kind business relationships, and are beginning to form committees. While our next steps will become evident through our planning, continued fundraising will also make us eligible to receive grants and eventually hire development personnel to focus on finding and purchasing property; eventually building our first home.

I am asking again for your generosity. If you or anyone you know feel comfortable contributing, Our Homestead and Millie’s family would greatly appreciate it. The NH Gives fundraiser is an initiative of the NH Center for Nonprofits and is similar to efforts in other states. It runs through a 24-hour period – 5 pm on June 9 through 5 pm on June 10. The QR code is provided for ease and convenience. Please share this on social media or on your email lists as often as you feel comfortable.

With Kind Regards and Appreciation,

Patrice
