Hi friends and family,
Around 2014, when I was just starting my work supporting farmers in my rural community, I helped bring together a handful of folks who shared a vision: to collaborate and build a food system that truly worked for farmers and fed our community.
For 10 years (!!), we met, organized, shared meals, and slowly shaped that vision. What began as a casual gathering in a friend’s living room (thank you, Janet!!) has grown into something more meaningful than I ever imagined.
Today, that work has become MWVEG, a federally recognized nonprofit supported by an incredible board of dedicated volunteers. I feel deep gratitude for the people who give their time and energy to build a more just and resilient food system.
In times like these, when so much feels uncertain and out of our control, local, grassroots organizing gives us a tangible way to care for one another and build resilience close to home. There has never been a time when this kind of community-based work has been more important.
With recent cuts to SNAP benefits and the loss of critical grant funding for farmers, the challenges facing both growers and families in our community are increasing. In response, MWVEG is:
- Providing food access through our FOOD FOR ALL program, which gives vouchers to community members to use at local farms
- Supporting farmers through collective marketing and shared resources
- Working toward a future where farmers earn a fair wage and everyone (regardless of income) can access fresh, local food
Now that we are officially established as a nonprofit, our vision is bigger than ever. (I cant wait for you to see what we have in store)
That’s why I’m reaching out.
As part of the NH Gives campaign, I’m working to raise $500 to strengthen the food system in my community, to keep this rural landscape a working and vibrant landscape, and to make sure my community is fed. If you’re able, I would be so grateful for your support (no amount is too small).
Thank you for being part of my community and for supporting this work that means so much to me.
