Every year, thousands of pounds of hazardous household waste — including chemicals, paints, pesticides, batteries, and cleaning products — pose serious risks to our environment, water supply, and public health if not disposed of properly.
That’s why the Nashua Region Solid Waste Management District (NRSWMD) Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program is so important.
Serving 11 Greater Nashua communities, this long-standing regional program provides residents with a safe, responsible, and environmentally sound way to dispose of hazardous household materials that cannot go into regular trash or recycling.
In 2025 alone, the program achieved an incredible impact:
• 6 household hazardous waste collection events held
• 1,665 households served across the region
• 89,425 pounds of hazardous waste safely collected and disposed of
These efforts help prevent dangerous materials from contaminating soil and waterways, reduce risks to sanitation workers and first responders, and protect the health and safety of our communities.
The average cost to safely collect and dispose of hazardous household waste is approximately $95 per household. Through regional partnerships and community support, residents are charged only $20 per vehicle, helping ensure these important services remain affordable and accessible.
But this work depends on continued community support.
Your gift during NH Gives will help:
• Keep hazardous materials out of landfills and water systems
• Support affordable household hazardous waste collection events
• Expand safe disposal opportunities for local residents
• Protect the environment and public health for future generations
• Support responsible stewardship of our shared natural resources
When residents have access to safe disposal programs, entire communities benefit — from cleaner neighborhoods and healthier ecosystems to safer homes and public spaces.
Together, we can continue building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Greater Nashua region.
Please support the Household Hazardous Waste Program during NH Gives and help protect our communities and environment for generations to come.
