Help Us Rewrite the Future for New Hampshire’s Youth
SOS believes in a simple but revolutionary truth: “Kids do well if they can.” When adolescents struggle with behavioral health challenges or substance use, they are often signaling unmet needs.
I am raising funds to support SOS’s new adolescent and family programming, a first-of-its-kind initiative in our region designed to keep teenagers out of systems.
Families in Strafford and Carroll Counties face unique challenges, with adolescent risk behaviors trending higher than the state average (NH Youth Risk Behavior Survey) Unfortunately, most local parenting resources stop after a child turns 10, leaving families of teenagers to navigate a complex and often punitive system alone. When a crisis hits, these families often encounter "system involvement" (courts, DCYF, or juvenile detention) rather than the holistic support they actually need to thrive.
Our Approach: Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS)
SOS is changing this by implementing the Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS) framework. Developed by Dr. Ross Greene, this evidence-informed model stops "behavior modification" based on shame and replaces it with collaborative problem-solving.
By supporting this fundraiser, you are helping SOS:
- Prevent Justice Involvement: Intervening before a crisis escalates into a legal issue.
- Empower Caregivers: Providing 8-week CPS courses that teach families how to communicate and build resilience.
- Provide Peer Support: Funding direct, one-on-one support and home visiting for at-risk families.
- Build Regional Capacity: Certifying staff to train other agencies across New Hampshire, creating a sustainable safety net for all our youth.
SOS is a peer-led organization, which means our work is deeply shaped by people with lived experience. Many of our staff members grew up in the very systems we are now trying to reform; they know firsthand what it’s like to face punishment when what they really needed was guidance and skill-building. Because of this, SOS is a trusted, low-barrier resource for families who might distrust traditional systems.
Every dollar counts toward our goal of supporting 25 families and delivering multiple 8-week intensive courses this year.
Join me in helping SOS meet families where they are. Together, we can build a community where recovery is embraced, and every family has the tools to thrive.
