Wow, what an experience.

I had the opportunity to take part in the Shelter Slumber Pawty at Pope Memorial SPCA, spending 24 hours alongside some incredible animals to include Buddy, my sweet companion for the evening.

From the moment I arrived, it was clear how much love and care goes into this place. I was so grateful to have friends and family stop by throughout the day to show their support, meet the animals, and be part of something so meaningful and the highlight might have been my parents adopting a cat to join their family.

As the night settled in and things quieted down, it gave me a whole new perspective. Even in a calm, caring environment, it’s still not home and you can feel that. Buddy, with his steady purrs and love for chin scratches, was the best company and a reminder of just how deserving these animals are of a place to call their own.

One thing is certain: every animal there is deeply loved, and the staff and volunteers go above and beyond to make sure they feel safe and cared for while they wait.

I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of this experience and for all the support, donations, and kind messages along the way. It truly means so much.

There’s still time to support this amazing cause and help animals like Buddy find their forever homes.

Hi, I’m Amber and I love animals.
Like… really love animals. Honestly, it might be a bit of a problem.

Some of my earliest memories involve my mom taking me to volunteer at animal shelters; walking dogs, scooping cat boxes, and learning very quickly that not every stray cat wants a hug (I even got a tetanus shot after being bitten by a feral cat). Safe to say, helping animals has always been part of my life.

Over the years, that passion has grown in many ways. I’ve fostered kittens in my own home (including bottle-feeding right from my desk at State Police Headquarters) and helped manage social media channels for Pope Memorial SPCA to share the stories of animals waiting for their new homes.

Seeing firsthand how many animals rely on the compassion of our community has made one thing very clear to me - the work Pope Memorial SPCA does is incredibly important.

So, I decided to take that support one step further.

I’ll be spending 24 hours at Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord-Merrimack County, including sleeping overnight in a kennel to experience life inside the shelter and raise funds for the animals who call it home while they wait for a match.

Throughout the experience, I’ll be sharing photos, updates, and maybe even a few videos so you can follow along and see the incredible work the shelter does every single day.

Every dollar raised helps provide food, medical care, enrichment, and safe shelter for animals who need it most.

Please donate.
Your contribution, big or small makes a real difference for the animals at Pope Memorial SPCA.

Thank you for helping me support these amazing animals and the people who care for them.
