  • What first drew you to this work, and why does it matter to you personally?  What first drew me to this work was my personal experience caring for my mother for 15 years before she passed away. During the last five years of her life, we became connected with In-Home Care services, and I saw firsthand how much those supports improved both her quality of life and her ability to remain safely in her own home. The assistance I was able to give her as her caregiver made an incredible difference not only for her but for our entire family.

After my mother’s passing, I still felt strongly connected to this type of work because I understand how important these services truly are for seniors and individuals who wish to maintain their independence. Many people want nothing more than to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes rather than entering a facility. That experience inspired me to continue helping others in similar situations and to be part of making a positive difference in their lives.

  • What have you seen or experienced that helped you understand how important In-Home Care is for the people we serve?  I have seen many clients who would not be able to remain safely at home without In-Home Care services. Some clients have little to no family support, mobility limitations, chronic illnesses, or struggles with isolation. Even small supports can make a huge difference in helping someone avoid hospitalization, maintain stability, and continue living in a familiar environment. I have also seen the emotional comfort clients feel simply knowing someone is checking in on them consistently and cares about their well-being.

  • What does dignity at home mean to you, and why is that worth supporting?  Dignity at home means allowing individuals to maintain as much independence, choice, comfort, and control over their lives as possible. Home is where people feel safest, most familiar, and most connected to their memories, routines, and identity. Supporting dignity at home means recognizing that every person deserves respect and quality care regardless of age, disability, or income level. It is worth supporting because it directly impacts a person’s emotional well-being, confidence, and overall quality of life.

  • Have you ever seen how a small act of help, like bringing groceries, companionship, or practical support, can ease someone's stress?  Absolutely. I have seen situations where something as simple as helping a client pick up groceries, assisting with daily housekeeping, or spending time listening to them completely changed their outlook for the day.   What stayed with you?  One thing that always stays with me is how many clients are simply grateful to feel seen and remembered. Sometimes companionship and kindness reduce stress just as much as physical assistance does. It reminds me that small acts of care can have a lasting impact on someone’s emotional and mental well-being.

  • What would you want a friend or family member to understand about the needs of low-income older adults and adults with disabilities in our community?  I would want them to understand that many individuals are facing challenges that most people do not see day to day — financial hardship, isolation, transportation barriers, food insecurity, chronic health concerns, and limited support systems. Many are trying very hard to remain independent but simply need some additional support to do so safely. Access to reliable care and resources can truly determine whether someone can remain stable in their home and community.

  • What do you wish more people knew about the everyday challenges some of our clients face?  I wish more people understood how difficult everyday tasks can become when someone is living with physical limitations, illness, financial hardship, or isolation. Things many people take for granted — transportation, meal preparation, medication management, housekeeping, or simply getting to an appointment — can become overwhelming challenges. Many clients are also dealing with loneliness, which can deeply affect both physical and mental health.

This NH Gives, I’m helping raise support for grocery gift cards and basic essentials for clients who are struggling with the rising cost of living. A simple gift can help put food on the table and ease pressure for a neighbor who is already doing their best to get by.

Thank you for supporting this work and for helping NH neighbors remain safe, nourished, and cared for at home.
