Above the Notch Humane Society is a 100% volunteer-run, foster-based rescue serving northern New Hampshire since 2001. Without a physical shelter, animals in our care live in the homes of dedicated foster families, where they receive individualized attention, safety, and a chance to heal.

In a single year, we provide over $25,000 in emergency veterinary care for pets belonging to low- and fixed-income families, helping keep animals where they belong: at home and loved. For those who come into our care, each animal requires an average of $500+ in medical treatment and support before they are ready for adoption.

We step in when animals are most vulnerable by responding to neglect, taking in surrenders and abandoned pets, helping lost animals find their way home, and guiding each one toward a safe future.

Our goal is simple: every animal safe, cared for, and placed in a loving, permanent home.
