Who We Are

Cornerstone Chartered Public School is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public school for grades K–8 opening fall 2026. As the only K-8 charter school within 50 miles of Lebanon, New Hampshire, we expand public school choice for families in northern Sullivan and southern Grafton counties, helping children find the learning environment where they can thrive. Founded by educators and community leaders, Cornerstone is rooted in a simple truth: every child deserves the right to read.

The Hard Truth: A National Reading Crisis

Nationwide, only one out of every three students is a proficient reader. Economically disadvantaged and students with disabilities are affected at an even greater rate. 

Locally, proficiency rates mirror this national crisis. Only about 30% of elementary students in nearby Sullivan County read proficiently. In a typical elementary school of 250 students, that means roughly 175 children struggle to read.

Why We Focus on Reading 

Reading is the cornerstone for all learning - without it, everything becomes harder. When children learn to read confidently, their world opens.

At Cornerstone, we use a proven, step-by-step method to reading instruction called the Orton-Gillingham Approach. This approach teaches reading the way children learn best, so all students grow into strong, confident readers - and that opens the door to everything else. Our content-rich curriculum connects reading, math, science, social studies, and the arts to build knowledge and critical thinking.
