Help Tori Support The Friendly Kitchen
$1,500 Raised
The Friendly Kitchen seeks to provide a meal for the hungry in a warm and caring non-discriminating environment through the coordination of community volunteer resources.
Concord’s only soup kitchen, The Friendly Kitchen, has been a staple in the city for 45 years, feeding those less fortunate. We help connect people through food and service, all in a warm and dignified atmosphere.
Without our volunteers, there is no Friendly Kitchen.
We have an estimated 325 volunteers who rotate every month. Last year, they donated 14,796 hours and provided 80,000 meals in our dining room and through the Family Friendly Meals program. We are grateful for their time and their boundless positive energy.
We serve warm, nutritious meals to anyone in need, no questions asked. For 46 years, people have come through our doors and received the same friendly service. In 2021, we expanded services by creating the Family Friendly Meals Program. Our volunteers prepare full meals and distribute them to families and seniors across our community. With the help of our community partners, these meals are delivered in a dignified and convenient manner. The goal is to ensure that anyone grappling with hunger in Concord can receive our help.
A child care provider recently shared how the Family Friendly Meals Program is making a meaningful difference for several of her families. The mother of multiple teenage boys who lives nearby described the program as “a godsend.” She explained that the weekly meals and pantry support have helped her keep her head above water during a financially strained period. For her family, the program represents the difference between living with constant food insecurity and worry and having the reassurance that there will be enough to eat. She also emphasized something equally important: dignity. She spoke about how nonjudgmental and welcoming the program feels. Not having to experience shame while trying to feed her children has lifted an emotional burden she struggled to put into words. The relief and appreciation she expressed were profound.
Every day, more people come to The Friendly Kitchen seeking comfort, nourishment, and hope. We can be there for everyone with your support because no one should face hunger alone.
