Most of my family and friends know that on most Sunday mornings, you'll find me at The Friendly Kitchen helping prepare meals for the Family Friendly Meal program — a partnership with area social services providers that delivers two healthy prepared meals each week to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
What started as a "Sure, I can cut carrots" kind of activity during the COVID pandemic has turned into something I look forward to every week.
The impact is tangible, and it is real.
My connection to The Friendly Kitchen is also a way of honoring my beloved grandmother. Nana volunteered for years with fellow church members to prepare and serve meals to those in need. Her kitchen always had a pot of something delicious on the stove and something sweet in the cookie jar — always offered with a sincere smile.
The Friendly Kitchen, to me, embodies that same warmth and kindness.
As a proud board member and volunteer, I see not only the vital need for the food and meals The Friendly Kitchen provides, but the significant impact of collaborating with other social service agencies to offer a hand up to those in need.
And yes — I'm proud to say my culinary skills have vastly improved from just cutting carrots.
Please join me in supporting The Friendly Kitchen today. Even the smallest donation can make a difference.
