Meals on Wheels of Hillsborough County has
been delivering nutrition and connection to older adults throughout Hillsborough County since 1977, that’s 48 years of impact! Now, volunteers deliver over 8,000 meals
to thousands of neighbors each week through the Home Delivered Meal Program.
Many neighbors who are grateful for Meals on
Wheels will tell you that it’s not just about the food; it’s about the
relationships they form through our programs. For many this is sharing a meal
with friends through the Community Dining Program.
With more than 13 lunches held each month
throughout the county, more than 700 older adults will attend a Community
Dining Lunch this summer alone! At these outings, individuals aged 60 and above
are able to enjoy their community and a nutritious meal. This program gives
individuals the opportunity to get out of the house, socialize, and stay
connected.
This NHGIVES, we are focused on raising money
for our monthly events. If we are successful in raising $8,000, NHGIVES will be
the reason these special lunches will be funded for the rest of the year. Every
$4 gift provides one older adult with a Community Dining Meals.
Since 1977, SJCS has provided vital services, such as Meals on Wheels and Community Dining, to older, homebound and disabled adults throughout Hillsborough County. In 44 years of service, almost 14 million meals have been provided to individuals in need.
MOWHC has continued as an essential service throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and we have continued to deliver meals non-stop. Additionally, due to the temporary statewide closure of community dining sites, we have created a new donation-based program to provide meals for people who may have been impacted by these closures. It is called Grab N' Go, a drive-through/ walk -up community-based meal program. Although not a traditional community dining model, it is a way to provide nutritious meals while at the same time offering brief, but safe, social interaction for folks who may have suffered
Be a part of the movement and DONATE TODAY to help provide nutritious meals to folks who may be hungry and isolated and who have been severely impacted by the threat of COVID-19.
