Life is Better with Horses

UpReach connects people with horses to improve lives.
Here at the barn, we offer access and inclusion, foster compassion, encourage
personal goal achievement, and personal growth for those living with physical and cognitive disabilities, as well as survivors of trauma.
UpReach is a safe, supportive, and healing environment where
the possibilities are real, the experience is motivational, and the therapeutic
benefits are numerous.

Unmounted Programming: Building Connection, Trust and Resilience

There exists an ever-growing need in New Hampshire for resources and programs that support improved mental health outside of, or in conjunction with more traditional therapeutic practices. UpReach Equine Assisted Services support youth, individuals, and families with innovative and unique programs to address community needs. 

Our unmounted programming opportunities support
youth, families, first responders and our military veterans.
Equine Assisted programming helps children and adult survivors of a myriad of traumas, including: high-conflict divorce, domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking, grief and loss, substance misuse and PTSD, substance abuse
and bullying. Curriculum based educational
programming partners individuals with horses to develop and reinforce
academic skills, foster social emotional learning and build connection
for more resilient people and stronger communities.

Mounted Programming: Building Confidence, Fostering Hope

  Therapeutic Riding, Driving and Hippotherapy serve individuals impacted by varying
degrees of cognitive, physical, behavioral, psychological, and    sensory
challenges including: Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, intellectual
and learning disabilities, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy,
traumatic brain injury, and sensory integration processing disorders.
Because
the motion of the horse most closely simulates the motion of the human
gait, the mounted program helps to improve core strength, balance,
coordination, and flexibility. Nothing builds confidence quite like
sitting on the back of, or seated in our wheelchair accessible driving
cart, horse in front of you, reins in hand, working as a team to achieve
your goals.
Goals are predetermined by participant and instructor, and are regularly reviewed to track progress.
Outcomes are undeniably visible -the mounted program builds strength, confidence, and fosters hope.

Why Horses

People experience numerous physiological benefits while interacting with horses, including: lower stress levels, feelings of peace,
happiness and patience.
Horses 'live in the moment', and one of the many gifts they offer is teaching us how to be present 'in the moment' as well.

Who We Are
UpReach Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization and a Premier Accredited Center through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl). UpReach was founded in 1992 with a borrowed horse, one rider, and two volunteers. Today, UpReach serves individuals each week through various year round Equine-Assisted Services. Our team of hardworking staff, volunteers, and horses provide programming to a diverse group of individuals of all abilities in Merrimack, Rockingham, Hillsborough, Cheshire, and Belknap Counties in New Hampshire.

Our Mission

UpReach Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to inspiring hope, fostering independence, and improving the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of individuals with and without disabilities by partnering with the power of the horse.

Current Programming:
Therapeutic Riding (TR): Therapeutic riding involves mounted (atop of the horse) activities including traditional riding disciplines, as well as adaptive riding activities conducted by a PATH Intl. Certified Riding Instructor. The intent is for participants to progress in equestrian skills while improving cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral abilities.
Benefits include:
 Improvement in body awareness, spatial orientation, endurance, balance, head, and postural control
 Stimulation of the nervous, circulatory, respiratory systems, speech, and memory centers of the brain
