Sam shares, “I would love to live on my own, in my own apartment, and spend time with my friends. I want to be independent, while still getting the help I need to make healthy choices and behave appropriately.”

She also understands something many families of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities think about every day: “I live with my parents now, and while I’ll be sad when I don’t live with them anymore, I know I can’t live with them forever. That’s true for many of my friends with disabilities.”

The reality is that many individuals with IDD are living with aging parents. While families provide incredible love and care, this situation is often not sustainable long-term. Parents will not always be able to provide the support, supervision, and community access their loved ones need and deserve.

When at home, Sam often spends long hours alone in her room watching video clips and talking with imaginary friends. Supportive housing at Our Place NH would offer something life-changing: real friendship, meaningful connection, and a true sense of belonging. She would be able to spend time with friends in shared living spaces, cook and share meals together, and enjoy both community and independence. She could welcome visitors into her own apartment while also having a quiet space to call her own.

Helping Sam and her friends have this opportunity would truly be a dream come true—not only for them, but for the families who love them. It would provide peace of mind for her parents and sister, knowing she is safe, supported, connected, and living a fulfilling life.

Thank you for considering support for friendship, community, independence, safety, and housing security for individuals like Sam.
